Fiber Internet Upgrade to Albion

Fiber, Updates

Direct Communications Announces Fiber Internet Upgrade to Albion, Bringing Next-Generation Connectivity to Kennebec County.

Albion, ME– We are proud to announce a major high-speed fiber internet upgrade reaching approximately 1,000 homes in Albion. This project will bring upgraded speed packages to current customers and their neighbors.  The funding for this is made possible through a partnership with the Maine Connectivity Authority (MCA) through the Reach Me grant program. This initiative helps bridge the digital divide for residents by providing reliable, gigabit-speed connectivity. The coming infrastructure expansion serves as the backbone of a modern network designed to handle the growing bandwidth demands of remote work, online education, and digital entertainment.

Project Timeline and Phases

Construction is currently in Phase 2 (Construction Planning). You can follow the project phases on our blog post:

  • Spring/ Early Summer 2026: Phase 3 (Construction Starting)
  • October 2026: (Mainline Construction Complete)
  • End of 2026: Residential installations begin, connecting/upgrading individual customers to the network

“We are incredibly proud to bring this significant fiber expansion to the Albion community. By strengthening our partnership with the Maine Connectivity Authority through the Reach Me grant program, we are taking a major step toward ensuring every household in Kennebec County has the tools to thrive in a digital world. This project is about more than just speed- it’s about reliability and opportunity. Whether it’s supporting a student’s online education, a parent’s remote career, or a family’s digital entertainment, this new gigabit-speed infrastructure provides the essential backbone for a modern, connected life. We are eager to provide our customers with an updated network.”
