WBC Project: Liberty, Montville, Freedom, Palermo, and Searsmont

Expansion Projects

Direct Communications and the Waldo Broadband Corporation (“WBC”) comprised of five towns in Waldo County (Freedom, Montville, Liberty Palermo & Searsmont), formed a collaborative partnership to construct a fiber build in these towns.  This project will reach an estimated 2,959 unserved and underserved locations. If you own a home in any of these areas and would like service, you can sign up by entering your address at the bottom of the page. Currently in Phase 3, Mainline Installation.

As of 9/22/25 Mainline splicing has started in the town of Freedom.

As part of our agreement with the WBC board, we will make sure that each of the five project towns — starting with Freedom — has a portion of its construction completed, with customers online by the end of 2025. This means you’ll begin to see work happening in your town soon, as we move steadily through each community to meet this milestone. While the initial focus is to get each town partially connected by the end of the year, please know that we remain fully committed to completing the full build-out in every town as quickly and efficiently as possible. We appreciate your continued support and patience as we work to bring high-speed internet access to every corner of your community.
