How to set up and mount an Arlo Essential wire-free camera
Step-by-Step

Step 1
Download the arlo app from the app store Create a new account
1a. Reset your password. This is a required step. Your service provider does not have access to or store your personal password.

Step 2
Set up
2a. Open the Arlo app and make sure you are connected to the home network
2b. From the Arlo app, select Add Device, select Cameras, and then Essential
2c. The Arlo app will help you complete setup, and guide you through the installation process

Step 3
Prep
3a. Follow the prompts in the app to connect to a 2.4GHz network and then to the WiFi credentials
3b. If there is no 2.4GHz network, you will need to create one
3c. Press and hold the round white sync button on the bottom of the camera for 1 to 2 seconds – the LED light on the front of the camera will start to flash blue
3d. Hold the camera approximately 4-6 inches away from the QR code displayed in the app – you will hear a chime from the camera once the QR code has been successfully scanned. The camera will automatically be found by the Arlo app.
3e. Give the camera a unique name to help identify it later (i.e. Front Door Camera)
3f. If the camera is not found, repeat the sync steps again until the blue light is flashing
3g. Once the camera is set up, it will automatically look for updates. This can take 1-2 minutes.
3h. Repeat setup steps for any additional cameras

Step 4
Mounting
4a. Find a location to mount the camera inside or outside the home or business with a clear vantage points – ensuring you adhere to privacy regulations when positioning the camera
4b. Ensure the location selected has a strong WiFi signal for the best experience - check the signal strength here: a strong signal is indicated by a green on the color bar on the far right
4c. Install the mount. Tighten the back of the mount to ensure a tight fit, adjust the angle by turning the thumb screw counter clockwise.
4d. Once at the desired angle, turn the thumb screw clockwise to lock the camera in place.
4e. If a charge is ever needed, the camera can be unscrewed from the mount, leaving the mount on the wall. Take the camera inside and plug the provided USB charging cable to the port at the base of the camera.
4f. When camera is mounted, select Continue and the app will prompt you to Arlo Secure setup

Step 1
Filter out motion alerts using Person Detection
1a. Tap or click Settings.
1b. Under Arlo Smart or Arlo Secure, tap or click Smart Notifications.
1c. Select a camera for which you want to receive Arlo notifications.
1d. Tap or click the slider next to People to enable Arlo Person Detection notifications.
Note: To get notifications only when people are detected, you must disable the Vehicles, Animal, and All Other Motion sliders.
Step 2
Filter by area
Motion that happens in a specific part of the camera’s view.
Create custom activity zones to just focus on important areas like the front door or driveway. The camera will ignore motion outside of these zones.
2a. Tap or click the settings (gear) icon under that camera that you want to create an activity zone for. Note: If you are creating an activity zone for a camera that is compatible with Auto Zoom and Tracking, ensure that Auto Zoom and Tracking is turned off. Activity zones can be impacted when Auto Zoom and Tracking is enabled.
2b. Tap or click Activity Zones.
2c. Tap or click the + icon at the upper-right corner.
2d. To resize the activity zone, drag the corners of the zone.
2e. Tap or click and hold within the activity zone to reposition it.
iii. To customize the activity zone name, tap or click the pencil icon.
