Direct Communications is currently constructing high-speed fiber internet infrastructure to service homes along the Emigration Pass corridor, connecting residents from Mink Creek to Liberty. To deliver reliable broadband to our community, work is taking place in close coordination with the U.S. Forest Service (USFS) and the Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) to protect the surrounding landscape.
- Purpose & Coverage: Construction is underway to bring next-generation fiber optic internet directly to households along the Emigration Pass route between Mink Creek and Liberty.
- Pre-Construction Planning: Before breaking ground, the entire route was driven alongside a USFS tree specialist and ecologist to identify only the necessary trees for removal.
- Motorized Access Prevention: This project is not building a trail or access road for ATVs, side-by-sides, or off-road vehicles. Downed trees are positioned perpendicular to the path and existing boulders are placed to block vehicle access and prevent unauthorized off-roading.
- Agency Oversight & Approval: Both ITD and the USFS are providing continuous oversight. Both agencies have expressed appreciation for the cleanup efforts and confirmed the project meets all safety and environmental requirements.
- Native Reseeding: Once construction finishes, all disturbed ground will be reseeded using an approved native wildflower seed mix suggested by the Forest Service to help restore the natural habitat.
- Future Infrastructure: Current site work is being completed in a way that aligns with potential long-term USFS plans.
